 Monday, August 6, 2007 The March of the Living Thousands of Holocaust survivors, family members, politicians and youth activists marched from the Knesset to the Prime Minister's Office on Sunday, in what they called "the March of the Living," to raise awareness and protest the government's decision to grant Holocaust survivors a meager 20 dollar monthly stipned. Despite the controversy it has created, some of the Holocaust survivors wore the yellow Star of David which they were forced to wear in the ghettos and concentration camps during World War II. Ahead of the Monday summit between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Jericho, Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank speak out on the chances of the summit producing any substantial results. A lack of optimism is shared by most of those interviewed on both sides. 08/06/07 Security forces in Lebanon are on high alert on Sunday during by-elections to replace two assassinated members of parliament from the anti-Syrian coalition, Walid Eido and Pierre Gemayel. The elections are unlikely to change the overall balance of power in parliament. However, they will test the popularity among Maronite Christians of the Free Patriotic Movement. Such an agreement is to be the base for talks at the international peace conference which will convene in fall in the US.
